Pakistan and Denmark can lead the way in climate action : Romina Khurshid Alam

Danish Ambassador Jakob Linulf discussed bilateral climate cooperation with Romina Khurshid Alam, Pakistan’s Coordinator on Climate Change, focusing on green energy transition, water conservation, and the urgent need for equitable climate financing for developing nations.

Islamabad: Danish Ambassador to Pakistan Jakob Linulf met with Romina Khurshid Alam, Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Climate Change, to discuss bilateral cooperation on climate issues. The talks focused on assistance for Pakistan’s transition to green energy, building climate resilience, and initiatives for water and biodiversity conservation.

During the meeting, Alam highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to global climate action, emphasizing the importance of protecting oceans, biodiversity, and resources. She outlined the government’s vision for tackling pollution and promoting sustainable practices along the coastline, prioritizing the preservation of marine ecosystems.

Romina also showcased Pakistan’s efforts to conserve marine resources, particularly noting a 300% increase in mangrove cover along the coastline in recent months, a significant achievement praised globally. This reflects the nation’s dedication to environmental sustainability and resilience against climate change.

Ambassador Linulf shared Denmark’s expertise in renewable energy and sustainable practices, underscoring the potential for knowledge sharing and technology transfer to support Pakistan’s climate goals. The meeting underscored both countries’ commitment to collaboration on renewable energy, water management, and climate resilience strategies.

Concluding the meeting, Alam reiterated the urgency of joint efforts to advocate for equitable climate financing for developing nations facing severe climate impacts. Both leaders expressed their intent to further dialogue and develop collaborative projects, marking a pivotal step in strengthening the partnership between Denmark and Pakistan.
