Ankara, November 15, 2024 : Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya on Friday to discuss enhancing the historic relationship between Pakistan and Turkey. The high-level meeting focused on matters of mutual interest, including regional security, economic cooperation, and the repatriation of Pakistani prisoners in Turkey.
Held during Minister Naqvi’s official visit to Turkey, the discussions underscored the shared history, culture, and religious ties between the two nations. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to transforming this relationship into a sustainable strategic partnership.
Minister Naqvi brought attention to the plight of three Pakistani prisoners detained in Turkey, requesting swift action for their repatriation. Minister Yerlikaya assured full cooperation, proposing that a delegation of Pakistani experts visit Turkey to expedite the process. “This issue will be reviewed with compassion and care,” Yerlikaya stated.
The two leaders also addressed the global threat of terrorism, jointly condemning it in all forms. Minister Naqvi denounced the October 23 terrorist attack in Ankara, emphasizing that terrorism knows no borders or religion. He called for a unified international strategy to combat the menace, declaring, “Terrorism is a challenge for the entire world, and collective efforts are required to overcome it.”
During his visit, Minister Naqvi attended the SAHA International Expo, commending Turkey’s advancements in defense and technology. He expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality extended by his Turkish hosts and highlighted the potential for deeper collaboration in these fields.
The meeting concluded with Minister Naqvi extending a formal invitation to Minister Yerlikaya to visit Pakistan, which was graciously accepted. Both leaders expressed optimism for further strengthening bilateral ties across various domains.
