PM Shehbaz Sharif’s Uzbekistan Visit Strengthens Bilateral Ties, Focus on Trade and Regional Connectivity

TASHKENT: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on a two-day official visit aimed at deepening bilateral relations and exploring new avenues of cooperation. Upon arrival, he was warmly received by Uzbekistan’s Prime Minister Abdulla Nigmatovich Aripov.

During his visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid a solemn visit to the iconic Uzbek Independence Monument, a symbol of Uzbekistan’s rich history and sovereignty. Accompanied by a high-level delegation, he laid a floral wreath at the monument and expressed admiration for Uzbekistan’s progress and resilience. Drawing parallels with Pakistan’s own journey, he emphasized the shared values of peace, prosperity, and regional connectivity between the two nations.

“The Independence Monument stands as a testament to the courage and determination of the Uzbek people. Pakistan and Uzbekistan share a common vision for a brighter future, and this visit reaffirms our commitment to working together,” Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif remarked. He was also briefed on Uzbekistan’s 3,000-year history, highlighting the nation’s cultural and historical significance.

The visit to the monument  follow by high-level meetings with Uzbek officials, focusing on enhancing trade, energy cooperation, and cultural exchanges. Both nations are committed to bolstering regional connectivity and economic integration, with a particular emphasis on signing new agreements in areas such as agriculture, technology, and education.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would also address the Pakistan-Uzbekistan Business Forum, where leading businessmen from both sides will participate in B2B meetings to explore opportunities for increasing bilateral trade. A number of bilateral agreements and MoUs would be signed, further solidifying the strategic partnership between Pakistan and Uzbekistan.

The discussions between the leaders will cover a wide range of topics, including economic cooperation, investment, energy, defense, security, and regional stability. Both sides will exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest, underscoring the importance of collaboration in addressing shared challenges.
