Bangladeshi Envoy Calls for Enhanced Pakistan-Bangladesh Cooperation
LAHORE: Bangladeshi High Commissioner to Pakistan, Muhammad Iqbal Hussain Khan, on Wednesday emphasized the need to enhance cooperation between Pakistan and Bangladesh in diverse fields including trade, economy, culture, health, and education, with a special focus on strengthening people-to-people linkages for mutual benefit.
Talking to the media after visiting the Lahore Press Club, the envoy underlined the importance of improving air connectivity and shipping links between the two countries to facilitate trade and bilateral relations. He said both nations have untapped potential in sectors such as agriculture, health, and education, which could be mutually beneficial if explored through deeper collaboration.
The High Commissioner noted that Bangladesh highly values its relations with Pakistan, rooted in shared history, faith, and cultural similarities. He highlighted the potential of health tourism and expressed that many Bangladeshi students are keen on pursuing higher education in Pakistani universities. While acknowledging the current challenge of direct flights, he informed that some private companies are working to launch direct air services soon.
Mr. Khan praised the growing trade and diplomatic engagement between the two countries and expressed confidence that these ties would continue to flourish. He said there is a pressing need for both nations to boost cooperation in trade, commerce, and cultural exchange, which would help foster stronger bilateral relations.
Reaffirming the friendly ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh, he encouraged mutual investment, particularly in trade and industrial sectors. On the question of regional cooperation, he stressed the urgency of reviving the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), stating that all South Asian nations could benefit immensely from collaboration in trade, water, tourism, and infrastructure.
Responding to a question about regional peace, the High Commissioner reiterated Bangladesh’s commitment to dialogue and peaceful resolution of conflicts. He expressed his admiration for Lahore’s vibrant culture and economic promise. President of Lahore Press Club Arshad Ansari, General Secretary Zahid Abid, and other office-bearers were also present during the envoy’s visit.
