PM Shehbaz Arrives in Dushanbe, to Attend Glaciers Preservation Conference
Dushanbe: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Tajikistan’s capital on Thursday for a two-day official visit, aiming to enhance bilateral cooperation and address global climate challenges. He was warmly received at Dushanbe Airport by Tajik Prime Minister Kokhir Rasulzoda, senior Tajik officials, and Pakistani diplomats. Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar and Special Assistant Syed Tariq Fatemi are accompanying the premier.
During his stay, Prime Minister Sharif will meet with President Emomali Rahmon to discuss avenues for strengthening ties in trade, energy, and regional connectivity. The two leaders are also expected to exchange views on pressing regional matters, with the Pakistani side lauding Tajikistan’s continued support, especially amid escalating tensions in South Asia.
A key feature of the visit is the prime minister’s participation in the International Conference on Glaciers’ Preservation. The event brings together global leaders and environmental experts to formulate strategies for mitigating the impact of climate change, particularly in high-altitude and glacial regions.
In his address to the conference, Prime Minister Sharif will highlight Pakistan’s vulnerability to climate-induced disasters and its commitment to sustainable environmental practices. He is also expected to urge the global community to prioritize climate resilience and extend technical and financial support to countries facing existential environmental threats.
