Chinese FM Wang Yi to Visit Pakistan for Strategic Dialogue on CPEC, Regional Security

Islamabad: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit Pakistan on August 20-21 to take part in the annual Pakistan-China Strategic Dialogue, a high-level forum aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation and advancing CPEC projects amid evolving regional dynamics.

According to official sources, Wang Yi’s two-day visit to Islamabad will include wide-ranging discussions on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) progress, defense cooperation, economic partnerships, and regional security issues. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will lead the Pakistani delegation during the talks.

This will be Wang Yi’s first visit to Pakistan since recent tensions between Pakistan and India, and it comes at a time of significant geopolitical shifts, including developments in Afghanistan and Islamabad’s growing engagement with the United States. Analysts believe the talks will play a crucial role in aligning both countries’ strategies on peace, stability, and economic development in the region.

The visit follows a series of important diplomatic engagements in Islamabad, including the recent trip by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. However, a planned visit by Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi was postponed unexpectedly.

Diplomatic experts say the Pakistan-China Strategic Dialogue has long served as a platform to deepen trust and expand cooperation in multiple sectors. This year’s meeting is expected to focus on accelerating CPEC infrastructure projects, enhancing defense ties, and addressing emerging challenges in regional peace and connectivity.

Both Islamabad and Beijing have reaffirmed their commitment to the “iron brotherhood,” with expectations that the upcoming dialogue will further consolidate strategic ties and open new avenues for collaboration in trade, technology, and security.
