Islamabad :Prime Minister’s Coordinator for Climate Change, Romina Khurshid Alam, reaffirmed the government’s dedication to ecosystem restoration and environmental protection for future generations during a seminar organized by the National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA) in collaboration with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and Bahria University (BU) to mark World Environment Day. She highlighted the significance of the day and the initiatives taken by the Pakistani government to restore ecosystems, emphasizing the crucial role of collective efforts in tackling environmental challenges.
The event featured prominent government officials, environmental experts, activists, and students, addressing the urgent environmental issues confronting Pakistan’s coastal communities. Distinguished guests included Norwegian Ambassador Per Albert Ilsaas, Sri Lankan Minister A. Christy Ruban, and other notable figures such as Farzana Altaf Shah, DG Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency, and Amb. Nafees Zakarya, Executive Director of COMSATS. The seminar’s theme, “Coastal Erosion Management, Mangroves Preservation & Ecosystem Rehabilitation,” aligned with the United Nations’ focus on “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience.”
Eminent speakers and scholars underscored the importance of protecting nature from the adverse effects of climate change, while students from renowned universities participated in a Policy & Scientific Solution Competition. The event concluded with the winning students receiving trophies, symbolizing their contributions and the collective commitment to fostering sustainable environmental practices.
