Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Meets Delegation of Chinese Garments Group “Challenge Fashion (Pvt) Ltd”
Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Friday met a delegation of Chinese garments manufacturer Challenge Fashion (Pvt) Ltd, led by its Chairman Huwang Weiguo.
Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister said Pakistan and China enjoy a unique friendship in the world, standing by each other in every difficulty. He reiterated the government’s resolve to take Pakistan–China relations to new heights and expressed satisfaction over the growing economic cooperation between the two countries.
The Prime Minister said Pakistan desires Chinese industries to set up their units in the country and appreciated Challenge Fashion Group’s trust in the Pakistani market. He welcomed the company’s plan to establish a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Pakistan, which, he said, would help promote technology transfer, skill development, and sustainable industrial growth. He directed authorities to extend all possible facilities to the company for the SEZ and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to promoting the industrial component of the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Highlighting China’s progress and expertise in the textile sector, the Prime Minister said Pakistan seeks to benefit from it. He announced that a China–Pakistan Business-to-Business Conference would soon be held in China to provide an opportunity for private enterprises of both countries to explore joint ventures.
Chairman Huwang Weiguo thanked the Prime Minister for the warm hospitality and briefed him on the company’s investments in Pakistan. He said Challenge Fashion Group has invested US$17 million in Pakistan since 2014 and is establishing a modern textile industry in the country. The planned SEZ, he added, would see an investment of US$100 million over the next five years, with expected exports worth US$400 million.
Following the meeting, the Prime Minister inaugurated the Challenge Group Special Economic Zone.
Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervez Malik, Federal Minister for Power Division Sardar Awais Ahmad Leghari, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi, and senior government officials were also present.
