Pakistan-China Skills Partnership: Ishaq Dar Visits Luban Workshop in Tianjin
TIANJIN: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Sunday visited the Luban Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Exhibition Hall in Tianjin, highlighting the importance of advanced technical education in shaping Pakistan’s future workforce. His visit put a spotlight on the growing Pakistan-China collaboration in equipping youth with modern industrial skills.

Ambassador of Pakistan to China Khalil Hashmi and Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal also accompanied him during the visit.
Dar was briefed on the operations of Luban Workshops and their cooperation with Pakistan. He also exchanged views with Chinese hosts on expanding collaboration under the Luban Framework, with a focus on emerging industries and scaling up joint efforts in vocational training.

The Foreign Office, in a statement, said the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that strengthening TVET cooperation was vital for sustainable economic growth. “This collaboration not only enhances Pakistan’s human capital but also deepens the Pakistan-China All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership,” Dar noted.
He also interacted with Pakistani students receiving training through the Luban Initiative, encouraging them to leverage modern technical knowledge to meet the evolving needs of industry.
Luban Workshops, established by Tianjin municipal authorities, have become a global model for sharing high-quality technical education. Since 2016, 36 workshops have been established in more than 30 countries. Pakistan’s own Luban Workshop, launched in Lahore in 2018, provides training in mechanical engineering, automation, and information technology. Currently, seven Pakistani students are also undergoing training in China.
