Shehbaz Sharif, Ilham Aliyev Pledge Stronger Pakistan-Azerbaijan Cooperation at SCO Summit

Tianjin: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on Monday reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening Pakistan-Azerbaijan ties, as they reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, energy, connectivity, defence, education, and people-to-people exchanges. The two leaders expressed satisfaction over the growing momentum in relations and pledged to unlock new opportunities for regional prosperity.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of State in Tianjin, China, being held from 31 August to 01 September, according to the PM Office Media Wing.

During the talks, Prime Minister Shehbaz congratulated President Aliyev on the signing of the historic peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, terming it a landmark step toward lasting peace and stability in the South Caucasus. Both leaders also underscored the importance of regional connectivity projects and enhanced cooperation under multilateral frameworks, including the SCO.

The leaders further exchanged views on emerging global challenges and agreed to maintain close coordination at international forums. President Aliyev, while expressing solidarity with Pakistan, conveyed condolences over the loss of lives and property in the ongoing floods and assured that Azerbaijan stands shoulder to shoulder with Pakistan in this difficult time.

Prime Minister Shehbaz also extended an invitation to President Aliyev to undertake an official visit to Pakistan soon.
