China and Pakistan Will Enhance SCO Cooperation for Global Peace : Jiang Zaidong
Islamabad: Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong on Tuesday reaffirmed that China and Pakistan will work closely under the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to advance peace, stability, and development worldwide. He said the two countries also stand united in supporting President Xi Jinping’s Global Governance Initiative, which aims to build a fairer and more inclusive international order.
The envoy was addressing a media briefing in Islamabad following Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to China and the conclusion of the SCO Summit in Tianjin. Ambassador Jiang described the summit as a “gathering of unity, friendship, and practical outcomes,” where more than 20 heads of state and government, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, took part.
Chineses ambassador said SCO leaders adopted a 10-year development strategy, agreed to set up an SCO development bank, launched six cooperation platforms, and prepared action plans for high-quality growth. He underlined China’s contributions, noting that President Xi announced 100 “small and beautiful” livelihood projects in member states, 2 billion yuan in aid this year, 10 billion yuan in loans through the SCO Interbank Consortium over the next three years, and 10,000 training opportunities in five years.
“These practical measures fully demonstrate China’s responsibility and commitment to promoting global development, exchange among civilizations, and human progress,” Jiang said.
The ambassador also praised Pakistan’s active participation in the summit, saying President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed the country’s commitment to regional cooperation. “Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the SCO as the platform that best reflects Pakistan’s commitment to regional cooperation and integration and said Pakistan will always stand side by side with China in the pursuit of peace, progress, and prosperity,” he added.
Jiang stressed that it builds on China’s Global Development, Security, and Civilization Initiatives, aiming to strengthen multilateralism and fairness in global governance. He said the initiative rests on five principles: sovereign equality, rule of law, multilateralism, a people-centered orientation, and action-oriented cooperation. Pakistan, he added, has expressed full support, with Prime Minister Shehbaz calling it a “historic step” for world peace and stability.
Referring to the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, the envoy said the commemoration was meant to honor sacrifices, cherish peace, and build a better future. He stressed that remembering history is not about hatred but about upholding peace.
“Both China and Pakistan suffered from aggression, and both look forward to world peace and the happiness of the people. We stand ready to work with Pakistan to uphold international fairness and justice and promote the cause of peace and progress for humanity,” he concluded.
