EU Appoints Raimundas Karoblis as Ambassador to Pakistan to Strengthen Bilateral Relations

Islamabad: The European Union has named veteran diplomat Raimundas Karoblis as its new Ambassador to Pakistan, signalling a fresh phase in bilateral ties. Karoblis formally assumed charge in Islamabad after presenting his credentials to President Asif Ali Zardari on September 10. His arrival is expected to inject new momentum into EU-Pakistan relations, particularly in trade, governance, development, and climate cooperation.

Backed by more than 30 years of experience in diplomacy, international trade, and security, Karoblis is regarded as a seasoned statesman. He previously served as EU Ambassador to Tajikistan (2022–2025), Lithuania’s Permanent Representative to the EU (2010–2015), and in senior government positions overseeing EU affairs, foreign trade, and national security. A law graduate from Vilnius University, he speaks Lithuanian, English, French, and Russian.

In his early engagements, Karoblis met the Ambassador of Turkmenistan and underscored the EU’s commitment to advancing regional cooperation. He expressed readiness to strengthen dialogue and enhance collaboration with Pakistan and neighbouring states, particularly in sustainable development and connectivity.
