PM Shehbaz Meets Presidnet Trump, Calls Him ‘Man of Peace’ and Champion of Diplomacy
Washington DC : Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday praised United States President Donald Trump as a “man of peace,” commending his bold leadership for averting a South Asian catastrophe, pushing ceasefire efforts in Gaza, and advancing Pakistan-US economic cooperation.
During a “warm and cordial” meeting at the Oval Office, PM Shehbaz — accompanied by Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir — lauded President Trump’s “courageous and decisive” diplomacy which, he said, not only helped defuse tensions between Pakistan and India but also paved the way for broader regional peace.

The leaders discussed a wide-ranging agenda including Middle East peace, counter-terrorism, economic partnership, and investment opportunities. Shehbaz hailed Trump’s initiative earlier this week in New York where he gathered Muslim world leaders to explore a roadmap for ending the Gaza conflict.
The prime minister thanked Trump for the recently concluded tariff arrangement and invited American companies to invest in Pakistan’s agriculture, I.T., energy, and mineral sectors. He also expressed confidence that under Trump’s leadership, Pakistan-US relations would deepen further.
On regional security, Shehbaz welcomed Trump’s public endorsement of Pakistan’s counter-terrorism role and stressed greater intelligence and security cooperation. Extending warm ties, the premier also invited Trump to undertake an official visit to Pakistan.
Ahead of the Oval Office meeting, President Trump , while signing executive orders at the White House — spoke warmly of Shehbaz and Asim Munir, calling them “great leaders.” The Pakistani delegation received a red-carpet welcome on arrival at Andrews Air Base, underscoring the significance of the engagement.
Shehbaz’s Washington visit comes on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly session in New York, where he is scheduled to deliver his address on Friday. Earlier in June, Pakistan had officially recommended Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of his intervention during the India-Pakistan crisis.
The high-profile meeting also follows the September 8 signing of two MoUs between Islamabad and Washington on critical mineral development, after a US delegation comprising top mining and infrastructure firms visited Pakistan.
Ambassador Waheed Ahmad, former diplomat, underlined the significance of the Oval Office meeting, calling it “crucial in the backdrop of cordial ties between Pakistan and the United States.”
“This is not a sideline engagement at the UNGA in New York; rather, the Prime Minister has especially flown to Washington, which reflects the bilateral weight of this meeting,” he said, adding that it highlights “the importance both countries attach to each other.”
According to him, Prime Minister Shehbaz is expected to raise issues of bilateral cooperation and extend gratitude to President Trump for his constructive role in securing a ceasefire between Pakistan and India. “Islamabad will also press Washington to encourage New Delhi to return to the negotiation table, as sustainable peace in the region is impossible without resolving outstanding disputes,” he observed.
He further noted that Pakistan would appreciate the US administration’s role in facilitating an IMF deal for Pakistan, calling the discussion “very important for future cooperation.”
