Pakistan Needs Export-Led Reforms to Ensure Prosperity and Resilience: Ahsan Iqbal
Islamabad : Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal on Sunday said that Pakistan must pursue an export-led growth strategy to break out of its low-growth cycle and achieve sustainable prosperity.
In a post on X, following a meeting with Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Finance Mr. Đỗ Thành Trung and Ambassador Nguyen Tien Phong, Ahsan Iqbal said the discussion focused on Vietnam’s remarkable economic transformation and its rise as an export-driven economy.
He noted that Vietnam’s exports had grown from just $3 billion in 1990 to over $400 billion today, whereas Pakistan’s exports had increased from $6 billion in 1990 to only $34 billion.
The minister underscored that Pakistan’s failure to maintain a consistent export-led growth strategy had trapped the economy in a cycle of low growth. He reaffirmed that under the 5Es framework of “URAAN Pakistan”, the government had placed exports as the top national priority.
“Pakistan must aspire, and work with unshakable resolve, to cross $100 billion in exports before 2035. This is not just an economic target—it is a national imperative for our prosperity and resilience,” Ahsan Iqbal emphasized.
