NDMA Hosts High-Level Delegations from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan for Disaster Cooperation Talks

Islamabad:  Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Monday hosted high-level delegations from Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan at its National Emergencies Operations Centre (NEOC), underscoring regional efforts to strengthen cooperation in disaster risk reduction and climate resilience.

The Uzbek parliamentary delegation was led by Mr. Nuriddin Ismoilov, Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, and included Mr. Maksudbek Kurbonboyev, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Budget and Economic Affairs, Mr. Bakhtiyor Pulatov, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Ecology and Environmental Protection, and other members of parliamentary committees.

Separately, a 20-member state-level delegation from Kazakhstan headed by Mr. Gizet Nurdauletov, Secretary of the Security Council, and accompanied by Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Pakistan H.E. Yerzhan Kistafin, also visited the NEOC.

During the visit, NDMA Chairman Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik briefed both delegations on Pakistan’s national disaster management framework, coordination mechanisms with provincial authorities during Monsoon 2025, and the integration of technology in early warning and response systems. He highlighted NDMA’s use of the National Common Operating Picture (NCOP) and Global Common Operating Picture (GCOP) to enhance situational awareness and strengthen preparedness at national and international levels.

The visiting teams were also apprised of NDMA’s ongoing efforts in disaster early warning (DEW) systems, risk communication, and relief and response operations across flood-affected regions. The Chairman underscored Pakistan’s active participation in Comprehensive International Simulation Exercises (CISE) with regional partners, including Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, to promote knowledge sharing and best practices in humanitarian assistance.

Delegates from both Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan lauded NDMA’s proactive approach and modern preparedness measures. They emphasized the need for enhanced regional collaboration, capacity building, and exchange of expertise in disaster risk management.

The visit, officials said, marks a significant step in fostering regional solidarity among Central Asian countries and Pakistan to jointly address the shared challenges of natural disasters and climate change through sustained cooperation and mutual support.
