Ishaq Dar Briefs National Assembly on Pakistan’s Active Role at 80th UNGA Session
Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Thursday briefed the National Assembly on Pakistan’s active participation during the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), outlining key diplomatic engagements, multilateral initiatives, and high-level meetings held on the sidelines of the session.
Addressing the House, the DPM/FM highlighted Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s comprehensive address at the UNGA, which underscored Pakistan’s principled stance on the issues of Palestine, Jammu and Kashmir, climate justice, reform of global financial systems, and the urgency of advancing sustainable development goals.
Dar emphasized Pakistan’s extensive diplomatic outreach, participation in high-level events, and constructive role in promoting peace and stability. He reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering advocacy for the rights of the Palestinian and Kashmiri people, in line with international law and the UN Charter.
He recalled that Pakistan, along with seven brotherly Arab-Islamic countries, issued a joint statement in New York calling for the unrestricted delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, opposing the forced displacement of Palestinians, demanding full Israeli withdrawal, reconstruction of Gaza, and the establishment of a credible pathway towards a just and lasting peace under the two-state solution.
The DPM/FM reaffirmed Pakistan’s consistent position that the two-state solution remains the only viable path to enduring peace in the Middle East, based on pre-1967 borders and the establishment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
Condemning the unlawful interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla by Israeli occupying forces, Dar termed the act a clear violation of international maritime law and humanitarian norms. He assured the House that Pakistan is actively pursuing diplomatic channels to ensure the safety and return of its nationals onboard the flotilla.
Briefing the members on the Prime Minister’s bilateral meeting with U.S. President Donald J. Trump at the White House, which was also attended by Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Dar noted the cordial exchanges between both sides. He said President Trump appreciated Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts and his role in facilitating the Pakistan-India ceasefire understanding in May.
Both sides, Dar added, agreed to further expand bilateral trade and investment, particularly in the fields of agriculture, information technology, mines and minerals, and energy.
