Pakistan Welcomes Gaza Peace Agreement as ‘Historic Opportunity’ for Lasting Middle East Stability

Islamabad: Pakistan on Thursday welcomed the Gaza peace agreement between Israel and Hamas, describing it as a “historic opportunity” to end the violence and pave the way for lasting peace in the Middle East.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif lauded the leadership of US President Donald Trump for his “unwavering commitment to world peace” and praised the mediation efforts of Qatar, Egypt, and Türkiye in facilitating the landmark accord.

“The announcement of an agreement that will bring an end to the genocide in Gaza is a historic opportunity to secure lasting peace in the Middle East,” the prime minister said in a post on X. He also paid tribute to the resilience of the Palestinian people, calling their suffering “unprecedented and one that should never, ever be repeated.”

The prime minister further expressed grave concern over recent provocations at Masjid Al-Aqsa, urging the international community to hold the “occupiers and illegal settlers” accountable and prevent actions that could derail peace efforts. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to continue working with international partners and brotherly nations to ensure peace, security, and dignity for the Palestinian people in accordance with UN resolutions.

Echoing similar sentiments, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar also welcomed the first phase of the plan, which includes an immediate ceasefire, release of hostages and prisoners, and unhindered humanitarian aid to Gaza.

“We commend President Trump, and Qatar, Egypt and Türkiye for their efforts,” he stated, expressing hope that the agreement would pave the way for a permanent ceasefire and durable peace. “Pakistan reaffirms its principled support for an independent State of Palestine, based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital,” he added.

Earlier, President Trump announced that both Israel and Hamas had signed off on the first phase of the peace plan under which hostages would be released and Israeli forces would withdraw to an agreed line , marking what he called a “great day for the Arab and Muslim world, Israel, and the United States.”

“I am very proud to announce that Israel and Hamas have both signed off on the first Phase of our Peace Plan,” Trump said on Truth Social.
“This means that ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their Troops to an agreed upon line as the first steps toward a Strong, Durable, and Everlasting Peace,” Trump added.

“All Parties will be treated fairly!” he said on Truth Social. “This is a GREAT Day for the Arab and Muslim World, Israel, all surrounding Nations, and the United States of America, and we thank the mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, who worked with us to make this Historic and Unprecedented Event happen.”

US President Donald Trump is set to visit Israel in the “coming days” and could address the Knesset, according to a report, following a ceasefire agreement reached between Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas.

“They want me to give a speech at the Knesset and I will definitely do that if they want me to,” Trump told Axios’ Barak Ravid on the US social media company X’s platform.

“It is a great day for Israel and for the world. My call with Bibi was great. He is so happy. He should be. It is a great achievement. The whole world has come together to reach this deal, including countries that were enemies,” he said, after his phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Trump also told reporters Wednesday that he might visit Egypt later this week, with the White House confirming that he is considering a regional trip shortly after a planned Friday visit to the Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.
