PM Shehbaz to Attend Gaza Peace Summit in Egypt: Foreign Office

Islamabad: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that, at the invitation of the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, H.E. Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and the President of the United States, H.E. Donald Trump, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif will undertake a visit to Egypt on 13 October 2025 to participate in the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit. The Prime Minister will also attend the signing ceremony of the peace agreement aimed at ending the prevailing grave situation in Gaza.

The Prime Minister will be accompanied by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, and other senior members of the Cabinet.

According to the Foreign Office, the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit represents a culmination of the diplomatic efforts initiated on the sidelines of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York last month. During that period, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, along with leaders of seven Arab-Islamic countries — Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, and Türkiye — attended a summit-level meeting with the President of the United States on 23 September 2025 to explore avenues for achieving peace in Gaza.

The Foreign Office recalled that, through a joint statement issued after the meeting, these Arab-Islamic countries welcomed President Trump’s initiative to achieve peace and reaffirmed their collective commitment to work with the United States towards a comprehensive and sustainable ceasefire, while addressing the critical humanitarian conditions in Gaza.

The statement added that the Prime Minister’s participation in the Sharm El-Sheikh Summit reflects Pakistan’s historic and steadfast support for the just cause of the Palestinian people and their right to self-determination, as well as Pakistan’s consistent advocacy for lasting peace and stability in the region.

Pakistan hopes that the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit will pave the way for a complete Israeli withdrawal, protection of Palestinian civilians, cessation of displacement, release of prisoners, and reconstruction of Gaza.

The Foreign Office further expressed Pakistan’s hope that such diplomatic efforts will contribute to a credible political process leading to the establishment of an independent, viable, and contiguous State of Palestine, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, based on the pre-1967 borders, in accordance with relevant United Nations resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
