Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday approved joint ventures between Chinese and Pakistani companies to facilitate the relocation of Chinese industries to Pakistan. Chairing a Board of Investment (BoI) meeting, he emphasized that boosting local and foreign investment is a key government priority.
Sharif highlighted the government’s efforts to create a business-friendly environment for traders and investors. He directed officials to prepare a detailed report on the Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) signed with Chinese companies during his recent visit to Shenzhen, China, and to review the draft law for the Special Economic Zones One Stop Shop accordingly.
The prime minister noted the significant potential for relocating China’s textile, leather, footwear, and other industries to Pakistan. The BoI Secretary reported ongoing steps to facilitate this relocation, including hiring Chinese experts to establish a Business Facilitation Centre in Islamabad and drafting the “Easy Business Act” for submission to the Cabinet Committee for Legislative Cases.
The meeting was attended by Federal Ministers Abdul Aleem Khan, Jam Kamal, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Dr. Musadik Malik, Prime Minister’s Coordinator Rana Ehsan Afzal, and other senior government officials.
