Pakistan Eager to Enhance Economic and Trade Cooperation With Iran: Prime Minister

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong desire to enhance cooperation with Iran in areas of mutual interest, particularly in economic development and bilateral trade.

The prime minister expressed these views during a meeting with Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Dr Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who called on him at the Prime Minister’s House along with a parliamentary delegation.

Welcoming the delegation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recalled the longstanding and cordial relations between the two brotherly Muslim countries, underscoring their shared commitment to peace, dialogue, and diplomacy for the resolution of global disputes.

He conveyed his highest respect to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and President Masoud Pazeshkian. The prime minister emphasized that both Pakistan and Iran have been victims of terrorism and strongly condemn all forms of state-sponsored violence. He noted that both countries stand united in their pursuit of global peace, prosperity, and the unity of the Muslim Ummah.

Dr Ghalibaf expressed gratitude to the prime minister, government, and people of Pakistan for their steadfast support to Iran during the recent Iran-Israel conflict, saying the Iranian nation deeply values the solidarity shown by Pakistan during the 12-day confrontation.

The Iranian speaker also appreciated the positive and constructive engagement between the parliaments of the two countries and lauded National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq for his efforts in strengthening inter-parliamentary ties.

Dr Ghalibaf reiterated Iran’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Pakistan in the fields of trade and economic development. He also conveyed warm greetings and good wishes from President Masoud Pazeshkian to the prime minister and the people of Pakistan, thanking the government for the hospitality extended to him and his delegation.
