Senator Mushahid Hussain lauded China for its role in establishing an alternative global order based on equality and justice. Speaking at an international conference in Beijing, marking 70 years of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, he emphasized the historical significance of these principles. The event brought together over 200 leaders, scholars, and journalists from more than 50 countries.
As Chairman of the Pakistan-China Institute and Co-Chairman of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties, Senator Hussain expressed gratitude to President Xi Jinping for honoring him with the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence Award. He is the first Pakistani politician to receive this accolade, highlighting his longstanding relationship with China.
Senator Hussain praised President Xi’s vision, which he described as rooted in Asian wisdom, advocating for a global order that rejects hegemony and militarism. This vision, he stated, serves as a “Code of Conduct” for the Global South, now led by China, and emphasizes peaceful coexistence and shared prosperity.
He further highlighted the conference’s relevance, noting its emphasis on a non-Western vision for global order that promotes harmony and inclusivity. He asserted that the Global South, encompassing Asia, Africa, and Latin America, now forms the majority in global affairs, driven by these foundational principles.
Drawing on examples of China’s contributions to peace and equality, he commended China’s rise as unique in history for avoiding conquest or aggression. He urged Western nations to abandon Cold War mentalities and embrace a cooperative global future.
Concluding his remarks, Senator Hussain invoked Confucian wisdom, emphasizing mutual respect among nations. His speech at the conference underscored his deep ties with China, tracing back over 50 years, symbolizing a longstanding commitment to fostering strong bilateral relations.
