Istanbul: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar met with Head of Communications at the Turkish Presidency, Professor Fahrettin Altun, in Istanbul to discuss ways to strengthen media cooperation, promote public diplomacy, and combat the challenges of Islamophobia and misinformation. The meeting marked a significant step in enhancing collaboration between Pakistan and Turkiye in the fields of media, entertainment, and communication.
The two sides agreed to initiate joint broadcasts between Pakistan Television (PTV) and Turkiye’s state-run TRT, including the airing of popular Turkish dramas in Pakistan. Additionally, an agreement was reached to establish a working group between Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Turkiye’s Directorate of Communications, with focal persons from both countries designated to oversee the collaboration.
During the meeting, Attaullah Tarar emphasized the deep-rooted historical and brotherly ties between Pakistan and Turkiye, highlighting the immense potential for media cooperation. He stressed that joint productions and projects would not only strengthen public-level connections but also create opportunities to showcase the rich cultural heritage of both nations. He underscored the importance of raising awareness among the youth about the shared history and cultural ties.
Professor Fahrettin Altun expressed his admiration for the development of media in Pakistan and noted the popularity of the Turkish drama Ertugrul Ghazi in the country. He acknowledged the appreciation of Pakistani artists and musicians in Turkiye, emphasizing that enhanced media cooperation could play a vital role in addressing global challenges like Islamophobia and misinformation.
