Bangladesh High Commissioner Calls on President Gilani, Discusses Bilateral Ties
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Bangladesh on Saturday underscored the need to enhance cooperation in trade, economy, culture, health, education, and people-to-people linkages for mutual benefit. The discussion took place during a meeting between President Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani and Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Pakistan, Md. Iqbal Hussain Khan, at Aiwan-e-Sadr, the President Secretariat Press Wing said in a statement. Both sides emphasized the importance of improving air and shipping linkages to facilitate bilateral trade and strengthen cultural exchanges.
President Gilani highlighted the vast potential for collaboration in education, health, agriculture, and cultural initiatives between the two brotherly nations. He expressed satisfaction over the recently signed MoU for the supply of white rice from Pakistan to Bangladesh, which he said would contribute to strengthening trade ties. Stressing the deep-rooted historical and cultural connections, the president called for greater people-to-people and cultural exchanges to foster closer relations. He also praised the contributions of Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser, Professor Muhammad Yunus, in the fields of micro-finance and social development.
High Commissioner Khan pointed out the potential for collaboration in health tourism and noted the growing interest of Bangladeshi students in pursuing higher education in Pakistani universities. President Gilani assured his full support in further enhancing bilateral relations in all key areas. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to working together for mutual progress and strengthening their longstanding ties.
