Ceasefire With India, a Diplomatic Win for Pakistan: Information Minister

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar on Tuesday said that the recent ceasefire between Pakistan and India was the result of extensive diplomatic efforts by several countries. In an interview with Sky News, he said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had thanked US President Donald Trump for his key role in ensuring the ceasefire. He also acknowledged the significant contributions of China, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, and Qatar in facilitating the truce.

Tarar stated that President Trump’s second post on social media platform X reflected a desire to resolve the longstanding Kashmir dispute. “It is a positive development that the US President has shown interest in addressing the Kashmir issue,” he said. Responding to a question about the Indus Waters Treaty, the minister clarified that India had not stopped the water flow to Pakistan, nor did it possess the technical capacity to do so. He confirmed that water flow was continuing as usual.

Addressing the Pahalgam incident, Tarar said Pakistan had expressed regret and offered full cooperation in a transparent investigation. He condemned India’s baseless accusations and noted that no evidence had been provided to support claims of Pakistan’s involvement. “No group has claimed responsibility for the incident, and the attack occurred under the watch of over 700,000 Indian troops deployed in occupied Kashmir,” he added, terming it a major security and intelligence failure on India’s part.

The minister further criticized India’s attempt to link the Pahalgam incident with Pakistan, stating that New Delhi had failed to substantiate its claims. He said that after the ceasefire, the first contact between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries had been established.
