Baku : Lt General Inam Haider Malik, Chairman of Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), held a crucial meeting with Mr. Jin Liqun, President and Chair of the Board of Directors, on the sidelines of COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan. The discussion centered on advancing strategies to address climate change and bolster disaster resilience.
Both leaders acknowledged the escalating challenges posed by climate change and stressed the urgent need for mitigation and adaptation measures. They emphasized strengthening infrastructure to better withstand the intensifying impact of natural disasters.
The conversation highlighted the financial vulnerabilities of nations grappling with climate change. Lt General Malik and Mr. Liqun called for the timely disbursement of funds from the Loss and Damage Fund to facilitate recovery and rebuilding efforts in climate-affected countries.
Additionally, the leaders discussed the importance of engaging the private sector in fostering disaster-resilient infrastructure. They agreed that creating incentives for private sector investment is essential to achieve sustainable and long-term development goals.
The meeting concluded on a note of mutual determination to enhance collaboration, foster innovation, and contribute to global efforts in building resilient and climate-adaptive communities.
