Islamabad: The Institute of Regional Studies (IRS) concluded a pivotal consultative dialogue on “Advancing Cooperation in the Transfer of Knowledge and Technology under the Innovation Corridor of CPEC 2.0,” emphasizing the need for Pakistan to prioritize intellectual infrastructure and technological advancement under the next phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The event, attended by leading experts, Chinese officials, and academics, highlighted the transformative potential of CPEC 2.0 in fostering a knowledge-based economy, enhancing digital innovation, and integrating Pakistan into global supply chains.
Ambassador Jauhar Saleem, President of IRS, underscored the importance of leveraging Pakistan’s young population and emerging technologies to leapfrog traditional industrialization stages. Minister Counsellor Yang Guangyuan echoed this sentiment, advocating for strategic investments in digital technologies, B2B cooperation, and private sector involvement to drive sustainable economic growth. Key sectors such as agriculture, mining, and space technology were identified as critical areas for collaboration, with experts calling for enhanced knowledge transfer and specialized training programs.
The announcement of a $300 million technology transfer investment from China further solidified Pakistan’s potential as a regional tech hub. Participants also stressed the need for a robust narrative around CPEC’s success, ensuring its benefits are widely recognized and embraced.
As CPEC 2.0 transitions from physical infrastructure to intellectual and technological development, Pakistan stands poised to harness its strategic location, youthful demographic, and partnership with China to emerge as a competitive player in the global knowledge economy. The dialogue concluded with a unified call for actionable strategies to build a sustainable, innovation-driven future under CPEC 2.0.
