Islamabad: Pakistan has placed strengthening ties with Russia as a significant priority in its foreign policy, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif said during a meeting with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk in Islamabad.
Prime Minister Sharif welcomed Overchuk and expressed Pakistan’s desire to expand cooperation with Russia in key areas, including trade, energy, and security. He emphasized the importance of building stronger connectivity between the two nations.
Sharif recalled his productive discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin in July and thanked him for sending a high-level delegation to continue talks on enhancing bilateral relations.
In response, Overchuk praised the constructive nature of Pakistan-Russia relations and reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to deepening ties with Pakistan. He also appreciated the hospitality extended to his delegation.
The two leaders agreed to maintain regular contact to ensure the momentum of cooperation remains strong.
A key outcome of the meeting was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Russia and Pakistan, signaling a shared commitment to advancing partnerships in various sectors.
Prime Minister Sharif also expressed anticipation of welcoming Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin to Islamabad next month to further build on these discussions.
