Deputy PM Ishaq Dar’s Bangladesh Visit Marks New Chapter in Bilateral Ties

Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar has embarked on a historic visit to Bangladesh, marking a significant breakthrough in bilateral ties between the two South Asian nations.

During his stay in Dhaka, Mr. Dar will hold important meetings with the political leadership of Bangladesh to discuss a wide range of issues, including strengthening political dialogue, enhancing economic and trade cooperation, and promoting people-to-people contacts. Both sides are also expected to deliberate on regional security, connectivity, and opportunities for collaboration under multilateral platforms.

Diplomatic observers note that the visit signals a renewed commitment to fostering trust and engagement between Pakistan and Bangladesh. The development comes at a crucial time, as both countries seek to expand avenues of cooperation while overcoming historical challenges.

The visit of Mohammad Ishaq Dar is particularly notable as it comes after a gap of nearly 13 years, during which no Pakistani Foreign Minister officially visited Bangladesh. The last high-level engagement at this level took place in 2012. Since then, bilateral exchanges remained limited, primarily restricted to multilateral forums. This trip is being seen as a landmark opportunity to reset relations and pave the way for a stronger partnership between Islamabad and Dhaka.
