Deputy Prime Minister Dar to Attend High-Level UN Security Council Events in New York, Hold Bilateral Engagements in Washington

Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar is set to visit the United States next week to participate in key high-level events organized under Pakistan’s Presidency of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in New York. He will also undertake official engagements in Washington.

According to the Foreign Office, the Deputy Prime Minister will chair several signature events of Pakistan’s presidency at the UN Security Council. These include a high-level open debate on the theme “Promoting International Peace and Security through Multilateralism and Peaceful Settlement of Disputes.” The discussion will focus on revitalizing multilateral diplomacy and promoting mediation as essential tools for global peace.

Senator Dar will also preside over the Security Council’s quarterly open debate on “The Situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian Question.” In addition, he is scheduled to lead a high-level UNSC briefing dedicated to strengthening cooperation between the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), as part of Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to enhance collaboration between the two bodies in the maintenance of international peace and security.

To reaffirm Pakistan’s longstanding support for the Palestinian cause, the Deputy Prime Minister will also attend a high-level conference on “The Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution.”

During his stay in New York, Mr. Dar is expected to hold a series of bilateral meetings with foreign ministers of other countries and senior United Nations officials.

“The Deputy Prime Minister’s visit underscores Pakistan’s growing diplomatic engagement in the multilateral arena and highlights its expanding relations with the United States,” the Foreign Office noted. “Pakistan’s active participation in high-level UNSC debates and international conferences is a clear reflection of its unwavering commitment to global peace, multilateralism, and the just resolution of long-standing international disputes such as the Palestinian issue.”
