Ethiopian Ambassador Dr Jemal Beker Pays Farewell Call on Acting President Gilani
Islamabad: Acting President Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday lauded the services of the Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, for his remarkable contributions in strengthening Pakistan–Ethiopia relations during his tenure.
Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula paid a farewell call on the Acting President at the Aiwan-e-Sadr. Mr. Gilani appreciated the envoy’s efforts in advancing political, economic, and people-to-people linkages between the two countries. He also acknowledged the Ambassador’s role in supporting the Green Pakistan Initiative and promoting joint efforts to address climate change.
The Acting President conveyed his best wishes for the Ambassador’s future endeavours and expressed confidence that the longstanding friendship between Pakistan and Ethiopia would continue to grow stronger. He also presented invitations for the Speakers of both Houses of the Ethiopian Parliament to attend the upcoming Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference scheduled in Islamabad next month.
Ambassador Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, while expressing gratitude, praised the leadership of Mr. Gilani and noted that the African region, including Ethiopia, highly values his role in promoting Pakistan’s relations with African countries. He described Pakistan as an important partner for Africa and reaffirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation.
The envoy commended Mr. Gilani’s efforts in promoting parliamentary diplomacy and fostering closer people-to-people contacts. He fondly recalled the celebration of Africa Day in the Senate of Pakistan, terming the resolution passed on the occasion a milestone in Pakistan-Africa relations.
Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula also lauded Pakistan’s resilience and development, expressing confidence that the country would continue to play a vital role at the global level. He assured that Ethiopia would remain a steadfast partner in this journey.
Concluding his remarks, the Ambassador said Pakistan would always remain close to his heart and that he would cherish the friendship and hospitality extended to him during his stay in Islamabad. He also affirmed that he would personally deliver the conference invitations to the Ethiopian parliamentary leadership.
