Governor Kamran Tessori Awards Honorary PhD to Ethiopian Ambassador for Diplomatic Achievements
Karachi: Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori conferred an honorary PhD degree and a gold medal on Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, the Special Envoy and Ambassador Extraordinary of Ethiopia to Pakistan, in recognition of his exceptional contributions toward strengthening diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Ethiopia.
The honour was bestowed during a special convocation ceremony of the Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) held at the Governor House, Sindh, according to a press release. The event was attended by senior government officials, parliamentarians, members of the diplomatic corps, the business community, civil society representatives, and media personnel.
Addressing the ceremony, Governor Tessori lauded Ambassador Dr. Jemal Beker’s remarkable efforts in fostering closer ties between the two nations. He particularly commended the Ambassador’s pivotal role in launching Ethiopian Airlines operations in Pakistan, terming it a milestone in advancing Pakistan’s “Look Africa” and “Engage Africa” policies.
Expressing gratitude for the recognition, Ambassador Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula described Governor Tessori as a “true friend of Ethiopia,” acknowledging his vital support in establishing the Ethiopian Embassy in Islamabad, facilitating business and official exchanges, and initiating direct air connectivity through Ethiopian Airlines in Karachi.
Following the ceremony, both sides discussed avenues to further expand cooperation in trade, investment, aviation, education, environment, health, culture, and tourism. They reaffirmed their commitment to deepen bilateral ties and explore new opportunities for mutually beneficial collaboration.
