Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi Terms Doha Peace Talks ‘Satisfactory’, Urges Implementation of Dialogue

Islamabad: Chairman Pakistan Ulema Council and Coordinator National Paigham-e-Aman Committee, Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi, has termed the recently held Doha Peace Talks as “satisfactory,” expressing hope that the implementation of the Doha Peace Dialogue would be ensured.

Addressing a press conference at Jamia Masjid Kubra, Lahore, on Sunday, alongside prominent Ulema and Mashaykh, Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi emphasized that Pakistan cannot progress amid religious and political extremism or lawlessness.

He regretted that despite continued negotiations with Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) till the last moment, no breakthrough could be achieved.

Hafiz Ashrafi said that the National Paigham-e-Aman Committee calls upon all religious scholars to cooperate in eliminating Takfiri and blasphemous content that fuels extremism and violence.

Issuing Takfiri fatwas and disrespecting other schools of thought, he added, is unacceptable. He stressed that the supremacy of the state, the Constitution of Pakistan, and the rule of law must be upheld, noting that the culture of self-righteousness and vigilantism has no place in society.
