Indonesia is a Brotherly Nation; Pakistan Seeks Stronger Collaboration in Defense and Trade: Prime Minister

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s firm commitment to strengthening comprehensive bilateral cooperation with Indonesia, particularly in economic, strategic, trade, and defense sectors, including defense production.

The Prime Minister made these remarks during a high-level meeting with Indonesian Defense Minister Lieutenant General (R) Syafrie Samsudin, who called on him in Islamabad on Tuesday. The interaction marked a renewed push to expand the longstanding brotherly ties between the two Muslim-majority nations, which are rooted in shared cultural, religious, and historical affinities.

According to an official statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, Prime Minister Shehbaz recalled his recent cordial interaction with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on the sidelines of the G-8 summit in Cairo, and conveyed his warm regards and best wishes to the Indonesian leadership.

The meeting underscored the significance of accelerating multi-sectoral cooperation, with both sides agreeing to explore avenues for joint ventures and mutually beneficial investment projects.

Prime Minister Shehbaz also reviewed the progress under the Pakistan-Indonesia Defense Cooperation Agreement and emphasized the need for swift implementation of projects in key areas of mutual interest.

Lieutenant General (R) Samsudin, while conveying President Subianto’s greetings to the prime minister and people of Pakistan, reaffirmed Indonesia’s keen interest in further advancing defense collaboration, particularly in co-production and capacity-building initiatives.

The high-level engagement reflects both nations’ shared resolve to deepen institutional linkages and strategic coordination in pursuit of regional stability and prosperity.
