Islamabad :The China-Pakistan Study Centre (CPSC) at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) hosted a distinguished guest lecture on “Japan’s Perspective on Regional Issues,” featuring Prof. Dr. KAWASHIMA Shin from the University of Tokyo. The event also saw the participation of Ambassador Akamatsu Shuichi, the Japanese envoy to Pakistan.
Ambassador Sohail Mahmood, Director General ISSI, emphasized the enduring ties between Pakistan and Japan in his opening remarks. He lauded the historical and multifaceted relationship grounded in mutual respect and cooperation, highlighting Japan’s significant contributions to Pakistan’s development and the importance of enhancing collaboration in trade, investment, climate change, and cultural exchanges.
Ambassador Akamatsu Shuichi reiterated Japan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and addressing regional and global challenges. He appreciated ISSI’s efforts in promoting mutual understanding through academic and policy dialogues.
Prof. Dr. KAWASHIMA Shin, in his lecture, shed light on Japan’s modernization journey and its role in regional geopolitics. He highlighted the enduring partnership with Pakistan, reflecting on the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties celebrated last year. Dr. KAWASHIMA underscored Japan’s dedication to economic interdependence and open dialogues to ensure regional stability and prosperity.
The event concluded with remarks from Dr. Talat Shabbir, Director CPSC, who acknowledged Japan’s contributions to Pakistan through Official Development Assistance (ODA) and cultural exchanges. Attended by academics, practitioners, and civil society members, the lecture emphasized the shared vision of both nations for regional peace and development.
