slamabad: Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Friday departed Pakistan after completing a three-day state visit, which he described as holding “great personal significance.” Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, alongside Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and senior officials, saw him off at the airport.
During his visit, Anwar Ibrahim, accompanied by a high-level delegation, engaged in a one-on-one meeting with PM Shehbaz Sharif. The leaders also led delegation-level talks and met President Asif Ali Zardari for what were termed “productive discussions.”
Both sides signed three Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to enhance bilateral cooperation across sectors. A significant outcome of the visit was the agreement for Pakistan to export Halal meat worth $200 million and 100,000 tonnes of Basmati rice to Malaysia.
The Malaysian prime minister emphasized the broad scope of discussions, highlighting future cooperation in sectors such as agricultural technology, artificial intelligence, digital services, and semiconductors. Palm oil imports and skilled worker exchanges were also focal points of the talks.
In a notable gesture, President Zardari conferred the Nishan-i-Pakistan award on PM Anwar Ibrahim at a special investiture ceremony, recognizing his efforts to strengthen ties between the two nations.
Furthermore, Ibrahim was awarded an honorary PhD by the National University of Science and Technology, where he delivered a public lecture. His visit underscored the commitment of both nations to deepening ties across multiple sectors.
As Ibrahim departed, he took to his X timeline, acknowledging the “productive outcomes” of the visit, expressing optimism about the future of Malaysia-Pakistan relations.
