Military Court verdicts align with laws enacted by Parliament and Supreme Court Rulings : FO

Islamabad: “Pakistan is fully committed to fulfilling all its international human rights obligations. Our legal system is consistent with international human rights laws, including provisions of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR). It guarantees judicial review by superior courts and ensures the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms,” stated the spokesperson. Responding to inquiries regarding recent verdicts issued by military courts, a spokesperson reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to its international human rights obligations.

The spokesperson emphasized that Pakistan’s legal framework aligns with international human rights laws, including provisions of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR). They underscored the availability of judicial review by superior courts and reaffirmed the country’s dedication to promoting and protecting human rights and fundamental freedoms.

“The verdicts have been made under a law enacted by the Parliament of Pakistan and are in accordance with the judgment of the Supreme Court of Pakistan,” the spokesperson clarified.

Highlighting Pakistan’s belief in dialogue, the spokesperson stressed the nation’s commitment to democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. “We remain fully committed to implementing our obligations under the GSP Plus Scheme and core international human rights conventions,” they added.

The statement concluded with a pledge to continue engaging with international partners, including the European Union, to uphold international human rights laws without discrimination or double standards.
