Islamabad: Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunications, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, presided over a high-level meeting to review progress on the licensing and regulatory frameworks for Starlink and Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites. The meeting, held at the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications (MoITT), brought together key stakeholders, including Secretary IT Zarrar Hashim Khan, SUPARCO Chairman Muhammad Yousuf Khan, PTA Chairman Hafeez ur Rehman, and representatives from the Pakistan Space Activities Regulatory Board.
During the meeting, discussions centered on finalizing the hiring of consultants within weeks to expedite the development of regulations. Participants emphasized the importance of creating a robust framework to support LEO satellite technology, which promises enhanced connectivity and technological advancement in Pakistan. Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja underscored the need for aligning regulatory policies with global standards to fully leverage satellite technologies for economic and social development.
The Minister concluded by reiterating the government’s commitment to fostering innovation and addressing connectivity challenges through modern satellite solutions. The meeting marked a significant step towards enhancing Pakistan’s digital infrastructure and positioning the country as a competitive player in the global satellite technology landscape.
