Islamabad:
A high-level meeting of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in Islamabad has decided to implement several initiatives aimed at transforming the federal capital into a city of international standards. The Interior Minister emphasized the importance of eco-friendly transportation by directing the CDA to exclusively purchase electric bikes in the future and operate electric buses for the citizens of Islamabad to reduce environmental pollution.
In line with this green initiative, the purchase of petrol motorcycles has been banned. Furthermore, Naqvi stressed the need for international standard emergency services for Islamabad’s residents. To streamline these services, it was decided that emergency services will be transferred from the Municipal Corporation Islamabad to the CDA, and the establishment of the Capital Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) will be expedited.
The meeting also resolved to accelerate the establishment of the Capital Waste Management Company and to fast-track the construction of key infrastructure projects, including an underpass at Serena Chowk and a flyover at F-9 Park Chowk. Naqvi urged the authorities to expedite the completion of the Islamabad Expressway project, which has been pending for some time.
Updates on the Islamabad Model Jail project, which had been stalled for seventeen years, were also discussed. The first phase of the project is now progressing rapidly and is expected to be completed within the stipulated period. Additionally, the Interior Minister highlighted the establishment of Business Facilitation Centers in Islamabad to provide comprehensive services to investors under one roof.
The allotment process for land to construct a Health Tower in the H-16 sector has been completed, marking another step towards enhancing the city’s healthcare infrastructure. In recognition of their efforts, Naqvi congratulated the entire CDA team, including its Chairman, for achieving record tax collections.
The Interior Minister directed the CDA to prepare and submit an investment plan for the organization within a week, emphasizing the importance of strategic financial planning to support these transformative initiatives.
