LONDON: The Pakistan Army Cambrian Team has made history by winning gold in the prestigious Exercise Cambrian Patrol 2024, securing 864 points, the highest ever in the competition. The event saw participation from 118 teams across Europe, making Pakistan’s victory all the more remarkable.
The 67 Punjab Regiment, representing Pakistan for the second consecutive year, emerged victorious in this demanding challenge. Their success follows a top finish in the Pakistan Army’s internal competition, which qualified them for this international event.
Exercise Cambrian Patrol, a cornerstone of the British Army’s training regimen, has been conducted for over six decades. Known for its intense focus on basic soldiering skills, the event tests participants under extreme conditions of fatigue, sleep deprivation, and stress. International teams, including those from Europe, regularly participate in this rigorous exercise.
Army and Air Adviser UK, Colonel Taimur Rahat, hailed the Pakistan team’s win, emphasizing that Cambrian Patrol is globally recognized as the toughest military exercise. He highlighted the assessment criteria, which include battlecraft, leadership, and individual robustness.
The Pakistani team, led by Maj Saqib Ali Malik, with key roles played by Maj Usman Iqbal, Capt Raja Hassan Raza, and Capt Hamza Tahir Shah, was rigorously trained and guided through the challenging 40-mile course. Their victory showcases the strength and discipline of Pakistan’s armed forces on the international stage.
