Pak-India Tensions Escalate with Diplomatic Expulsions,Islamabad Declares Indian High Commission Official Persona Non Grata

Islamabad: Pakistan on Wednesday declared a staff member of the Indian High Commission as persona non grata for his involvement in activities incompatible with his diplomatic status, and directed him to leave the country within 24 hours.

In a late-night press release, the Foreign Office said the Indian Chargé d’Affaires was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to convey Islamabad’s decision. It was conveyed that the concerned official had been found involved in conduct violating diplomatic norms and conventions.

“It was stressed that none of the diplomats or staff members of the Indian High Commission should misuse their privileges and status in any manner,” the statement said.

The move comes in a tit-for-tat response after India expelled a Pakistani High Commission staffer earlier this week, signalling a further deterioration in already tense diplomatic relations between the two neighbours.
