Pakistan and China Reaffirm Iron-Clad Strategic Partnership, Vow Stronger Cooperation
Beijing: Pakistan and China on Tuesday vowed to further deepen their “iron-clad” and “all-weather” strategic partnership, reaffirming the unparalleled nature of their bilateral ties. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chinese President Xi Jinping, in a high-profile meeting at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, stressed that the unique relationship between the two nations must translate into stronger cooperation across all sectors. Both leaders also reviewed key regional and global developments, pledging to continue close coordination on issues of mutual interest.
During the talks, Prime Minister Shehbaz reiterated Pakistan’s firm commitment to the successful execution of the upgraded phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), encompassing five new corridors. He also congratulated President Xi on the success of the SCO Summit in Tianjin and extended felicitations on the 80th anniversary of the World’s Anti-Fascist War.
Praising President Xi’s visionary leadership, the prime minister said Pakistan took immense pride in China’s remarkable achievements on its path to modernization and progress. He lauded China’s consistent support for Pakistan’s sovereignty, socio-economic development, and its pivotal role in strengthening the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) through CPEC, which remains the flagship project.
Prime Minister Shehbaz further endorsed President Xi’s initiatives on global governance, development, security, and civilization, terming them vital for regional and international peace and prosperity. In response, President Xi assured that China would continue assisting Pakistan’s economic growth, particularly as both sides advance into the second phase of CPEC focusing on Pakistan’s key economic sectors.
Extending a warm invitation, Prime Minister Shehbaz invited President Xi to visit Pakistan next year to mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two brotherly nations.
