Pakistan announces 48-hour ceasefire on Afghan Taliban’s request
Islamabad : Pakistan on Wednesday announced a temporary 48-hour ceasefire along the border areas with Afghanistan, following a request from the Afghan Taliban, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
According to a statement issued by the ministry, the ceasefire will take effect from 6 p.m. today. The move aims to create space for dialogue and de-escalation amid recent tensions between the two sides.
The Foreign Office spokesperson said that both countries would use this opportunity to seek a “constructive and positive resolution” to the issue through bilateral engagement.
Sources said Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Mohammad Sadiq, and the Afghan Foreign Minister are expected to participate in the upcoming talks aimed at easing the situation and restoring normalcy along the border.
