Pakistan Condemns Indian PM’s Remarks, Urges Return to International Norms
ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) on Tuesday issued a strong statement condemning recent remarks made by the Indian Prime Minister, terming them “inflammatory” and reflective of a continued disregard for regional peace and international norms.
In its official response, the MoFA said it was “regrettable, though not entirely unexpected,” that the Indian Prime Minister had once again resorted to provocative rhetoric instead of addressing the pressing internal challenges India faces, including historical revisionism and the repression of minorities.
The Foreign Office expressed particular concern over the Indian leader’s reference to “weaponizing water,” a critical and treaty-bound shared resource between the two countries. Such statements, it noted, mark a “troubling departure from international norms” and contradict India’s professed global ambitions.
“A leadership truly in pursuit of international respect might first look inward, and seek to cleanse its conscience before issuing threats to others,” the statement asserted.
The Ministry further highlighted India’s record of alleged extraterritorial assassinations and foreign subversion, along with its continued occupation of Jammu and Kashmir, which remains internationally recognized as a disputed territory. “India’s track record in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) is defined by systematic repression,” it added.
The statement also criticized the ideological orientation of India’s current leadership, accusing it of promoting mob violence, hate campaigns, and persecution of religious minorities. “Such acts may serve domestic optics but cannot withstand international scrutiny. Nor do they inspire confidence in India’s image as a responsible regional power,” the MoFA noted.
Calling for restraint, the statement urged New Delhi to adhere to its treaty obligations and respect the sovereign rights of other nations. “Jingoism may stir applause on the campaign trail, but it undermines long-term peace and stability,” it said.
The Foreign Office concluded by advising India’s youth to reject the politics of fear and chauvinism and instead pursue a future rooted in dignity, rational discourse, and regional cooperation.
