Islamabad :The Twenty-third meeting of the Council of the Heads of Government (CHG) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), scheduled to be held in Islamabad from 15 to 16 October 2024, is expected to further solidify Pakistan’s role in fostering regional cooperation. As the current Chair of the CHG, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif will preside over the meeting, which will be attended by high-level dignitaries from SCO member states, observer states, and special guests.
The Prime Ministers of China, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, along with the First Vice President of Iran and India’s External Affairs Minister, are expected to attend the meeting. Additionally, the Prime Minister of Mongolia, representing an observer state, and the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan, as a special guest, will also participate, underlining the wide-reaching significance of the SCO forum.
On the sidelines of the CHG meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will engage in bilateral talks with the visiting heads of delegation, further enhancing Pakistan’s diplomatic and economic ties with regional partners. These discussions will aim to foster greater cooperation across various sectors and explore new avenues for collaboration within the SCO framework.
The CHG meeting will focus on enhancing cooperation in areas such as trade, the economy, the environment, and cultural linkages. Key decisions, including the approval of the organization’s budget, are expected to be adopted during the meeting, further cementing the SCO’s role in regional development and cooperation.
