Islamabad : Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar, in a conversation with foreign media, highlighted Pakistan’s preparations for the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit. He emphasized that Pakistan is set to host this key international event, showcasing the country’s emergence on the global stage. The minister noted the significance of the SCO as a platform for regional cooperation and said Islamabad has been beautifully decorated in anticipation of the summit.
Attaullah Tarar also spoke about the recent visit of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to Pakistan, underscoring the fruitful discussions held on enhancing bilateral relations, investment, and cooperation. He mentioned that Malaysia has announced an increase in imports from Pakistan, particularly halal meat and rice, further strengthening ties between the two nations.
The minister went on to highlight the successful visit of a Saudi delegation, led by the Saudi Minister of Investment, during which memorandums of understanding worth $2.2 billion were signed. He said this visit, along with three other recent delegations from Saudi Arabia, demonstrated growing Saudi interest in increasing trade with Pakistan. Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s commitment to boosting economic cooperation was particularly noted.
Regarding Pakistan’s economic performance, the minister pointed out that inflation had decreased to 6.9% and the trade deficit was continuously declining. Exports have risen by 14%, a clear indicator of the government’s liberal trade and investment policies. He also mentioned the progress made in the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), terming the upcoming visit of the Chinese Prime Minister to Pakistan as a game-changer for CPEC.
