Islamabad : Pakistan is set to host the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Heads of Governments meeting in October this year, announced by Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch during a press briefing. This event follows preparatory ministerial meetings and senior officials’ discussions aimed at enhancing cooperation across finance, economics, socio-cultural affairs, and humanitarian efforts among SCO member nations.
Highlighting the significance of 2024 in Pakistan’s SCO engagement, Baloch noted that Pakistan will assume the rotational Chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of Government (CHG), underscoring its role as a pivotal decision-making body within the organization. This follows recent visits by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and senior cabinet members to Kazakhstan for the SCO Council of Heads of State and SCO Plus Summits, as well as Tajikistan for bilateral engagements.
During these visits, Prime Minister Sharif participated in the inaugural Pakistan-Azerbaijan-Turkey Trilateral Summit in Astana, Kazakhstan, and focused on bolstering comprehensive cooperation with Tajikistan in regional and global matters of mutual interest. Notably, Pakistan and Tajikistan signed a Strategic Partnership Agreement during these discussions, which includes plans for high-level dialogues involving leaders and Foreign Ministers from both countries.
