Pakistan, Turkiye Reaffirm Support for Iran, Call for Gaza Ceasefire
Istanbul: Pakistan and Turkiye on Saturday reaffirmed their strong support for Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, emphasizing its right to self-defense under the UN Charter. The reaffirmation came during a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of the 51st Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers.
The two leaders agreed on the need to intensify diplomatic efforts to de-escalate regional tensions and urged the international community to step up and play a constructive role in restoring peace and stability. They stressed that sustained cooperation among Muslim countries was vital to addressing common challenges.
Both Pakistan and Turkiye strongly condemned the ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza, describing it as a flagrant violation of international law and human rights. They underlined the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire and called for the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza.
Deputy Prime Minister Dar conveyed Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s warm greetings to President Erdogan and highlighted the special significance Pakistan attaches to its fraternal ties with Turkiye. He emphasized the need to strengthen bilateral cooperation across various sectors.
The meeting concluded with both leaders reaffirming their resolve to deepen the historic relationship between the two nations. DPM Dar also congratulated President Erdogan on receiving an award from the Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum, recognizing his leadership and successful hosting of the OIC Foreign Ministers’ session.
