Linzhi (China): Pakistan Ambassador to China, Khalil Hashmi, emphasized the impressive socioeconomic achievements of the Xizang (Tibet) Autonomous Region, highlighting increased per capita disposable income for both urban and rural residents. Speaking after attending the 4th Trans-Himalaya Forum for International Cooperation in Linzhi, he noted that last year, the per capita disposable income in Xizang exceeded $7,200 for urban residents and $2,700 for rural residents.
The Forum focused on the harmony between nature and humans, and Ambassador Hashmi highlighted China’s world-class educational and health facilities in Xizang. He praised China’s efforts in promoting ethnic harmony and cultural preservation, alongside significant infrastructure development. During his visit to a village in the region, he was impressed by the availability of electricity, gas, and 5G connectivity.
Hashmi underscored that China’s achievements in Xizang go beyond infrastructure, emphasizing quality access to education, healthcare, and livelihoods. He noted the region’s vast area and dispersed population, highlighting the challenge and success in providing high-quality facilities. Despite media reports, he remarked on the impressive infrastructure and the importance of recognizing these advancements.
He acknowledged the significance of the Trans-Himalaya Forum and China’s commitment to dialogue and engagement. In response to how Pakistan could benefit from international cooperation, Hashmi stressed the importance of participating in forums like Trans Himalaya for discussions on environmental protection and climate change mitigation.
Given that Pakistan is among the top five countries affected by climate change, Hashmi emphasized the relevance of these discussions for Pakistan. He highlighted the need to learn from China’s practices in ecological preservation and environmental protection in Xizang.
Ambassador Hashmi concluded that participation in such forums is crucial for exchanging ideas and finding solutions to global environmental challenges, reaffirming the value of international cooperation and dialogue.
