PM Shehbaz, President Aliyev Reaffirm Commitment to Regional Stability

LANCHIN: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on Tuesday reaffirmed their resolve to work together for regional stability, shared prosperity, and principled stances on key global issues during a high-level bilateral meeting in the historic city of Lachin. The meeting was held ahead of the symbolic trilateral summit between Pakistan, Azerbaijan, and Türkiye, scheduled for Azerbaijan’s Independence Day.

The Prime Minister extended heartfelt congratulations to President Aliyev and the people of Azerbaijan on their national day and highlighted the unbreakable bond of friendship between the two nations. He also expressed gratitude for Azerbaijan’s unwavering support to Pakistan during periods of regional tension, particularly its vocal solidarity during the Pakistan-India standoff. Prime Minister Sharif praised the people of Azerbaijan for celebrating Pakistan’s success in Maarka-e-Haq, emphasizing the depth of public affection between the two nations.

Both leaders reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral ties and voiced satisfaction with the growing cooperation in political, economic, defense, and cultural spheres. They reiterated their shared commitment to transforming the strategic partnership into one based on diverse, mutually beneficial investments. Discussions also focused on expanding high-level exchanges and delegation visits, with plans for organizing delegation-level talks in the near future.

The venue of the meeting, Lachin, held special emotional significance, symbolizing Azerbaijan’s resilience and recovery. The Prime Minister acknowledged this symbolism, stating that the city’s restoration story mirrors the shared determination of both countries to overcome adversity and strive for collective progress.

The meeting concluded with both sides expressing firm determination to deepen bilateral cooperation and advance joint objectives at regional and international forums. The Pakistani delegation included Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Minister for Information Atta Ullah Tarrar, and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi, further underscoring the high-level nature of the engagement.
