PM Shehbaz Receives Phone Call from Malaysian Counterpart; Discusses Gaza Peace, Halal Trade, and Regional Issues

Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Friday received a telephone call from the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and discussed matters of mutual interest, regional developments, and follow-up on recent bilateral understandings reached during the Pakistani leader’s visit to Kuala Lumpur.

Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed gratitude to the Malaysian leadership and people for the warm hospitality extended during his recent official visit, noting that the understandings achieved—particularly in the export of halal meat and other mutually beneficial sectors—had elevated Pakistan–Malaysia relations to new heights.

The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and international developments. Prime Minister Shehbaz briefed his Malaysian counterpart on his participation in the signing ceremony of the Gaza Peace Agreement held in Sharm-el-Sheikh. Both leaders welcomed the peace effort and expressed hope that it would bring an immediate end to the suffering of the Palestinian people, ensure unhindered humanitarian access to Gaza, and pave the way for durable peace and stability in the region.

Prime Minister Shehbaz also apprised Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of the security situation along the Pakistan–Afghanistan border, reiterating that while Pakistan seeks peace and stability in Afghanistan, it continues to face cross-border terrorism emanating from Afghan territory. He emphasized that the Afghan authorities must take effective steps to dismantle terrorist networks operating from their soil.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed that Pakistan had agreed to a temporary ceasefire at the request of the Afghan authorities to facilitate dialogue in Doha, stressing the need for tangible action against all terrorist entities, including Fitna-al-Khwarij, Fitna-al-Hindustan, TTP, and BLA, to restore peace and stability along the border.

The Malaysian premier expressed concern over these developments and offered to play a constructive role in easing tensions and promoting regional stability.

Both leaders agreed to remain in close contact to further strengthen bilateral cooperation and continue consultations on issues of mutual concern.
